Hi!
Lyra Oey (they/them)born in Delft (NL) 1994 lives and works in Ghent.
My transdisciplinary practice transcends the boundary between
body, traces and reproduction and questions normative patterns and
systems of Western society. The body as an ‘image machine’ is a key starting point in my work. I blend different media such as mixed-media installations, performances, sculptures, printed matter, or even text in space.
Since 2025, I have been focused on long-term research into my heritage as part of the Peranakan ethnic group (18th-century Chinese-Indonesian migrants) and the colonial history of my Dutch grandparents.
Besides this practice, I am a co-founder of Shif-t*, a feminist queer collective, and a member of the transnational ConstructLab Network.
I am invested in community-engaged creative practices and how this translates to public space.
